Bizarre Theft Case: Man Swallows Diamond Pendant Worth Over 19300$
A strange theft incident has been reported in New Zealand where a man allegedly swallowed an expensive diamond-studded pendant during a robbery attempt.
According to local media, police have not yet been able to recover the missing item. The pendant was a Fabergé-style, egg-shaped piece valued at around USD 19,300 — roughly.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon when police were called to Partridge Jewellers in central Auckland. Within minutes, officers arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of stealing the pendant.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect underwent a medical checkup and is currently being held in custody.
The jewellery store’s website states that the stolen piece featured 60 white diamonds and 15 sky-blue sapphires.
The pendant is known as the “Octopussy Egg,” inspired by a James Bond film of the same name released in 1983. That movie also revolved around the theft of a Fabergé-style egg.
Fabergé, a world-famous luxury jeweller with origins in Russia more than two centuries ago, is known for its iconic egg-shaped creations.
The suspect in this unusual case is scheduled to appear in court on December 8. Reports also claim he faces an additional charge for stealing an iPad on November 12.
